Today we got up and started getting ready for church. Broc was finishing putting some things in the crockpot downstairs and I was getting ready upstairs. Crew had been upstairs playing and I thought that he had gone downstairs to see what Broc was doing. Usually he is right there by you trying to help you get ready. I thought it was weird that I hadn't heard him for a little bit. Usually it means trouble if you can't hear him, because he is usually into something he shouldn't be in. I had this feeling to check on him and so I looked in his bedroom, he wasn't there. So I went downstairs and asked Broc if Crew was down there. He said he thought he was upstairs with me. I told him he wasn't. We instantly ran around the house looking for Crew and found nothing. We didn't think that he could open the front door, but since we had searched the house we looked outside around our neighborhood to see if he was there. No Crew. Broc told me to look again around the house while he looked outside. As I was searching, I said a prayer in my head and asked for Heavenly Father's help in finding him and for Crew to be safe. Broc had done the same. I went outside and saw Broc shake his head, no Crew. I have never felt so scared in my life. Then we looked down the road and saw Crew with no shoes on, in the middle of the street. We ran to him and picked him up. I don't think he even realized how scared we were or that he shouldn't have gone out. Because he then, "I want to go that way", pointing across the street. I looked over and there was a car near by that appeared to be watching him to make sure he was okay.
I can't tell you how scared we were not knowing where our baby was. It was the longest 5 minutes I have ever experienced. We had never seen him successfully open the front door. The dishwasher was on downstairs so Broc didn't even hear the door open. I don't know how he didn't get hit by a car, if any of the cars had backed out there is no way they could have seen him. I am so grateful to a loving Heavenly Father who hears our prayers, blesses us with his tender mercies and sends angels at our times of need. I am so thankful that Crew was safe. You never know when it could be the last time you see someone you love so much. I feel so blessed to get to have him for a little while longer. He brings so much joy into our lives. Tonight I just held him so tight and cried not knowing what I would do if I ever lost him and feeling grateful we get to have him for one more day. I recognized how each day really is a gift. And it is sad to think that it takes something like this to help you remember that.
Just look at that sweet smile!

Oh No Crys! I am so sorry that you & Broc had to go through that! We had a similar experience with Ambrian when she was the same age & there was a pond near our condo in Riverdale. I still feel the same sick feeling to this day when I think about how we couldn't find her & I thought she had fallen in the pond. It's incredible how long 5-10 minutes can seem.
I am so thankful that little Crew was/is safe & was being watched over. I don't know what we'd do if he wasn't here. I'm so happy that everything turned out alright. How are you? I imagine that you are still shaken up. You will cry over it for a long time I'm sure.
I love you guys & you are always in our prayers. Give Crew loves from all of us. (And go buy a chain lock that you can drill into the top of the door. We had to do that with Rhees.)
Love you!
That is so scary. I'm glad that everything turned out fine. It's crazy to think how many times Heavenly Father spares us, and we quickly appreciate how fragile life is! In some ways that's a good thing, it keeps us on our toes.
I totally know how that feels. Brandon put little latches at the top of our front door so that the kids couldn't get out without us. We put them on for that very reason...our kids have disappeared a few times. They are so sneaky!
I am so sorry! About 3 weeks ago on a Saturday we got a knock on our front door. There was Ashton with a Dad and Daughter who had been out on a walk. They asked us if he belonged to us and I couldn't believe it. Apparently Ashton had gone out the garage doors and started following these people on their walk. I was so scared and sad that something bad could have happened to him.
I'm so glad that Crew is ok. Thanks for posting that story. It's true, we need to be thankful for what we have because in an instant it could be gone.
I am glad everything turned out to be okay. What a scary experience - our babies our so precious. I am glad this story had a happy ending.
my gosh!!! That is my worst fear!!! I am so sorry that you experienced that but am grateful that everything was okay!!!
What a nightmare! I told Quincy and we were both just shuddering at the thought. I am glad he is ok. THanks for your sweet post about him and your faith in Heavenly Father. What a loving Heavenly Father we have!
I LOVE your new blog background. I looked at her website and I got one off there too. It's a little busy, but its fun for now.
I hope all is well for you, Broc and Crew! We miss you guys!
I hate that feeling - I'm so glad that you found him and he was safe!
I am so glad that Crew is okay. Thank you for that sweet post, it made me get a little teary because it is so true! Glad to hear you guys are doing well!
Crys & Broc... What a scary feeling! I'm so glad that everything turned out ok. I remember looking at your door that other day when I was there and wondering if Crew had learned how to escape yet... and saw that you had a deadbolt and was glad... I guess it will become habit to "lock yourselves in" whenever you come home.
Crew is such a cute lovable little guy. I had a fun time playing with him and Bob and Doo. So excited for you guys to come here in a few weeks.
Thank you again for getting me to and from the airport, for letting me stay with you, for the mint on my pillow... for a yummy breakfast, for downloading my songs... basically, thank you for helping me to survive for those few short hours. I love you!!
I'm glad that Crew is safe and that your family was so blessed.
Love, Jenn
